EP31 From boys to girls to fetish - confessions of Lucie the yoga girl

Soon after the fall of the Iron Curtain a young Lucie Rosecka left her home in the Czech Republic to spend a year in the UK as an au pair....she stayed away for 17 years.

During that time she lived in Brighton, Mallorca Ibiza, Greece and basically went wherever life took her. She went from boys to girls both, danced at some of Europe's biggest nightclubs and had serious medical issues that are bound to change every woman's life forever.

 

She told me her story, why she left, what she learned, her relationships with men and women as well as how it is to be a twin, that special connection that is there that us non-twins don't know how works.

 

Today Lucie is an art therapist and a yogi but I am sure that in a few months she will be something else as well.

EP30 Becoming Bad Jeff - Jeff Cohen

"Bad" Jeff Cohen is the owner of one of Prague's most popular restaurants, Bad Jeff's Barbeque.

Raised in Florida in the US, Jeff has been in gastro since an early age and has cooked in over 100 restaurants and for some of the world's biggest celebrities and politicians.

 

Jeff told me his story, the story of gastro in his family, his troubles in school, how his mom taught him all there is to know about drugs when she busted him getting stoned on her weed when he was 11 and how he very randomly ended up in Prague.  

 

He also explained how he wants his business to run, what is important to him, what he eats and cooks for himself and how Covid has affected his restaurant and what he has done to react to that new reality.

EP29 Twerking away my weaknesses - Paula Arendasova

Paula Arendasova is a certified Twerk coach and a master student in psychology.

She was born in Nitra, a small town in Slovakia and her parents supported her in whatever she wanted to try and achieve.  

 

However whenever she achieved something that raised attention to her, her schoolmates bullied her because of the size of her butt.  So over time she started associating success with doubt.  Later on her parents divorced and Paula somehow got caught up in between them.

 

She decided to move to Prague and  study psychology, it was not a smooth ride and she needed four attempts to be accepted into the university.  

 

At the same time Paula started Twerking and along with her psychology studies is now a certified Twerk technician who teaches both groups and individuals. 

 

She told me her story, the history of Twerking, about how Twerking made her turn a weakness into a strength, how Twerking makes you feel and can help with body acceptance, femininity and mental health.

EP28 Raised to be a hockey star - Andrej Nestrasil

Andrej Nestrasil is a professional Ice Hockey player, he has captained the Czech national team in hockey, played for teams in the NHL in the US, in Russia and now just signed a contract with a top Czech team.  

 

Most of his major achievements have come after a spine injury that would have ended most people's career.  But Andrej is cut from a different cloth, he was raised to push harder, he competed against his older brother in everything and his father gave him a lot of tough love, very much a lot of tough love!

 

Andrej told me about the effort it took to get into pro hockey, how he dealt with that career threatening injury, how the hockey world works, the difference between US and Russia and what life will be like after the career ends.

EP26 In the shadow of religion - Omar Sattar

Omar Sattar's family emigrated from Pakistan to Scotland where he eventually was born. 

He went to University and made a career in real estate that eventually got him to Prague where he currently lives with his family.  

 

Omar has had a very interesting journey which has been heavily influenced by his family background and religion.  Omar had to hide away from his parents a lot of the things that regular teenagers and young people do, he could not bring home girlfriends that were not Muslims and when he eventually fell in love with his wife it was not easily accepted by his family.

 

On top of that his father was constantly coming up with new business ventures that did not always end very well and resulted in some incidents that affected Omar greatly.  

 

These pressures and the constant hiding eventually led to Omar suffering from anxiety and depression that he has been dealing with.  

 

It was very interesting for me to hear his story, how hard it must be to be torn between two worlds when growing up and the constant pressure of being stuck between wanting to please your family as well as living your life the same way as your peers.

EP25 From baking trouble in Iceland to become Mr Loveballs in Prague - Davíð Arnórsson/Artic Bakehouse.

Davíð Arnórsson and his business partner opened the Artic Bakehouse in Prague in 2018.  Their amazing bakery became an instant hit in the city and they both became icons of their neighborhood.  It is not uncommon to hear people refer to them as Mr Loveballs which is a direct translation of a traditional Icelandic pastry ástarpungar. 

 

Davíð is extremely honest and we covered some very interesting topics and amongst other he told me how it was to grow up on a small island south of Iceland, how he was a troublemaker as a kid, how he knew he would become a baker from an early age and about the tragic loss of his brother just a few years ago.  

 

And of course Davíð told me how it is to open a business in the Czech Republic, a country that only had a fraction of the ingredients that he wanted to use to ensure top quality in every piece that they bake in his bakery.

EP24 Flirting makes everything easier - Simona Barbry the flirtologist

Simona Barbry is a trainer, coach with a passion to assist people and companies to feel happier, more fulfilled and in general to increase the quality of their approach in life. 

She told me a bit about her very interesting life that includes her plan of hitchhiking around the world with 100 german marks in her pocket to be wanted by Interpol.

Simona believes that flirting is an essential part of success and happiness in both life and business. 

Business is an art of interaction were flirting serves a purpose in building and exploring a new or ongoing relationship.  In the end we all prefer to be around and do business with people that we actually feel comfortable with.  

 

Flirting can help but it is also a double edged sword with 67% of individuals having reported that friendly behavior on their part has been wrongly viewed as a sexual invitation, with women having experienced this misperception more frequently than men.

Is being woke a new religion? Is it mass psychosis or just a normal development of the world we live in? Was Covid a goldmine for woke people? 

 

Richard Grannon visited my Bunker again. Richard's mission is to assist humans with life by giving them insights from psychology and philosophy.

EP22 Straight outta Jersey - Sean Ríordáin

Sean Ríordáin is from an Irish family and was born and raised in New Jersey , the home of the Sopranos.   

 

After living in the US, Mexico and Spain he ended up in Prague where he does stand up comedy, makes rap music, teaches young kids and does charity work.

 

We talked about life in the US when he was growing up, how the Irish embrace their background and culture, racism and police brutality, Mexican kids coming to school with armed guards, what makes a good comedy and how covid has affected students and teachers.  What a mix!

EP21 The Burlesque feminist - Katarzyna Byrtek aka Zorya Blue

Katarzyna Byrtek is a feminist, activist, podcaster, teacher and guide book writer.  As if that is not enough then she also has an alter ego called Zorya Blue who is a very talented Burlesque dancer.  

 

We discussed her journey, how she got into Burlesque dancing and how and if it fits with feminism.  You will also be surprised to hear how much effort a Burlesque dancer puts into an act that takes just a few minutes (bathtubs as props!).  

 

She also talked about how the church controls her home country of Poland and the bizarre stuff that is going on with abortion law there which forces Polish women to seek medical help and procedures outside of their home country.

 

Also for Icelandic listeners, Katarzyna is born in the town that makes Prince Polo!  Iceland's favourite chocolate cracker for the past 60 years.
